This is a great activity for when your child is becoming confident with recognising upper-case letters. It is also good to assess which ones your child needs more practise with.

  • Paper
  • Pen
  • Clipboard (optional)
  • Write the upper-case alphabet on the paper
  • Walk around the village or town where you live looking at car registration numbers.
  • Ask your child to spot upper-case letters, say them out loud and cross them off on the paper
  • When you get home, ask your child to practise writing some of the letters on a whiteboard / magnetic board / paper (developing letter formation)
  • Repeat the activity keeping a tally of how many of each letter your child can spot
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
